post race recovery

this year i saw many singaporeans n europeans wearing compression socks n tights after the race.they were pretty ugly...do they really work? the way it is supposed to work is that the socks shuns the lactic acid back to the top.
to me, i prefer the old fashion way. Sunday post race, Zaful n Razani accompanied me to collect my bike from transition.then we went for a short 12k ride.just spinning n sight seeing. i feel privileged to be in the company of such great cyclists. Zaful is a young chap under Razani's guidance.he will be the one to watch.a champion in the making.watch out for him this racing season.

apart from that, i have been rewarding myself with alot of ice creams n banana shakes. i had a big whopper at KLIA Burger King whist waiting for my flight.

but the body damage kind of sucks. i have been having bad gastric these past few days. diarrhoea.swollen toe nails.oedema in my legs because of the long flights to reach home.n sore limbs.

the bit i don't like about ironman is take it takes so long to recover. for the next few weeks , i will just be lounging by the pool n doing lazy breastroke!

thank you Abang Razani

i panicked when i packed my bike for the race.the handlebar totally seized up on me.SHIT!i couldn't turn it right nor left. the bike shops in KK were still all closed until friday. too late.

on my way to the airport, i begged Razani to go Langkawi.pleaseeeeee i pleaded to him.
finally he agreed to go.

whiist i was there earlier than him, i got AH Thiam to fix it.but AH Thiam said hard to fix cos the headset is spoilt. damn.

anyway, my saviour finally arrived.after spending quite long servicing my bike,n adjusting the cables n gears, the TREK baby was finally ready for war.

i trust his bike care cos he is very meticulous. i felt much more confident after that.

thank u Razani n Zaful who gave me lots of encouragement. they cleaned my bike, set up everything for me, recleaned my bike after race n packed my bike also.i think they will be hired as next year's chaperons again!!

race thoughts

i will pen a few thoughts which i hope will help me n others for next year's race.

the swim : langkawi swim is usually un eventful...except if u r unlucky n get stung by jellyfish n
jelly bugs. the water is usually quite nice with little current. that i may add,is the only
pleasant thing about the whole race!

the bike : i thought it would be easy like last year.boy was i WRONG! the hills were steep n never ending. coupled with lack of mileage n hill training, my legs really felt it on the run.i don't know how i could have finished.my training mileage was worrying.my longest ride was 105km one time, 2 times 90k.and the rest were 60-80k rides.

the run : it never gets easy, no matter how many times i have done this. i thought by wearin my GPS this time, i would try to keep a minimum of 10.5k/h. my mind wanted to ,but my legs couldn't.

so it really boils down to too little mileage which i think was my weak link to a successful race.

still, i think i have drawn many ideas from this race. i hope Hawaii will be another good experiment.

finishing photos

it hurt !!!!!

a tough day out there. i lost 2kg on race day.post race weigh in was 50kg. feeling drained, i had some icecreams for reward.

a hard day's work at the office

Man ! was i glad the race was over!
there were a lot of anxiety before this year's race. mainly because i couldn't put in as much training as i would like, in order to post a good result at Langkawi. there were many reasons for worry. i was quite ill with a bout of persistent cough, fever n flu for several weeks.and the rainy days meant i had to miss many swim n bike practices.

when race day came, i just focused hard and believed in myself. i didn't break my own record this year, but the effort was good enough to win my age group overall ( 2nd n 3rd were both Germans) and also win the Malaysian Overall category. i received 2 beautiful crystal trophys on award's nite.

i have many people to thank. LIEM for sponsoring my accommodation n entry fees, and my own personal sponsors Oakley n Powerbar.thank you to Razani n Zaful who were my best support crews.
i received many wellwishes from friends n relatives who follow my journey towards this race. last but not least, to Pa n Ma from whom i draw my inspirations.n my brothers n sisters who always encourage me.

i will do a write up on my langkawi trip soon.stay tuned......to be continued.....

Uncle Lo Lok Fah

Uncle Lo , Pa's close friend (also his classmate from All Saint's school) sadly passed away yesterday.he died from septiceamia complications resulting from acute luekaemia.
he was diagnosed with luekaemia just a week ago. but fell into a coma n later died in his sleep.
May God bless his soul.

we sometimes take things for granted. life is short..i agree with Pa when he said,"live everyday like it's your last day".

for the past 2 weeks,i have been abit ill myself.got a cold that wouldn't cure,a sorethroat that is so bloody $#%%$^# painful and fever that made my head spinning dizzy.

good health is indeed priceless.
