Botanical garden Lok kawi
the second batch of children from Emmanuel's home came to visit me this weekend.
after treating their teeth, i took them to visit the botanical garden at Lok kawi.
it also happens to be my 1st visit there.
we were all pleasantly surprised how well kept the place was.
the trails n tracks span about 3-4km in total. we all worked up some sweat even though it was after a rainy morning.
the children n i were huffing n puffing as there were many steps to climb.
'are we near the end yet?" they kept asking in jest!
as soon as we finished the trails , we wanted to retrace it again !
it was so beautiful..and very relaxing indeed!
when the trip ended, we all had a well deserved ice kacang :)
good old sphagetti
why do i never get tired of eating pasta n pizzas?
last nite, i watched " the Forbidden kingdom" on dvd....accompanied by a simple sphaghetti manarina n a glass of red wine....
sometimes it's nice to just stay n home n chill out in front of the tv.
oh.... and of course i watched the highlight of the tour de france!
Sunday ride
as much as i would like to look like a pro, i am afraid i always fail miserably!
chain marks on my inner calf ....messy hair beneathe the helmet.......and i usually scare myself when i stare into the mirror after a ride outside, with dirt marks all over my face, bits of powerbars sticking at the corner of my lips. not very ladylike!
today i had a great 90km ride....after testing out the optimum bike seat position over the past week, i placed on my aerobars yesterday.
things are looking in order..just a few more rides to check that i am comfortable with the fitting.
this morning was super windy....so there was me grinding it out. the stray dogs were all out in full force today too....i love dogs , but those stray dogs chasing n barking at me really shit me up ! and it happened i was riding up a hill ...my heart rate certainly went over the roof !
i wish someone would get a shotgun n kill them. one of these days , they are going to eat me alive.
i love my new trek bike. my other bikes tend to be dark in colour....black, deep blue, khaki green, metallic chrome silver. this one has a frame colour white....so i find myself having to wash it after every ride!! a little spec of dirt drives me crazy.
anyway, all is good as it is absolutely what i have been longing for a long long time.
i still can't believe it's mine.

trail running at bukit Padang
one of my favourite places to run in KK....
Bukit padang is about 10-15 minutes drive from my house...without trafic.
so i try to go early in the morning before work once or twice a week.. if i go after work, it takes forever to get home for dinner .....and that is not good as i get really edgy when i am hungry!!
there are many trails surrounding the park. there is also a tarmac track that circles around a lake there.about 2.2km per loop.
i enjoy running at different surroundings...the beach, the parks, the trails, on road...even on the treadmills!
but trails are the best for me!

Learnng n Sharing with the Children
Over the weekend, i invited some high school teenagers from the orphanage to my clinic to observe and learn how a clinic is run.
there are 60 children at the home. so i will try to spread their visits to several weekends.
most of the children are from poor backgrounds, from villages n kampungs far from town, so many do not often get a chance to even travel to kota Kinabalu.
the idea is to open them up to the real world..see a bit of the town...interact as much as possible with them and give them some work experience.
the children were all eager to help ,learn and were all very enthusiastic.
they learnt some basics of simple filings of documents, reception work and a few helped to clean my surgery.
my nurses were very happy cos someone else did their job for the day!
others learnt to help out with some somple dental chartings, assisting as a "nurse".
role playing on each other.
the children are all very ambitious.some want to be doctors, dentists, nurses, others interested in hotel management, teachings etc etc.( why wasn't i like that when i was young!!!)
i was very impressed with their positive attitude.
i hope i can help them as much as i can.

Red
Red = fast n furious!
the new Saucony Type A. it's similar to the older version( which is already torn n tattered!) in that it's red...but the outer mesh is thinner n therefore more airy to the feet.it's also slightly lighter although the support is still good.
i like New balance n Saucony.they are very comfortable shoes.
i also like asics but i think they are very overpriced.

Perfect !
it's so beautiful i don't even want to ride it!
thank you abang Razani for helping me fix it all up...which leaves a little fine tuning on the seat positions by myself.

Eagle Ray
An eagle ray,
a ray of hope.
Hoping tomorrow,
a flow of happiness.
Majestic,Fantastic,
Stately and Smoothly...
That's how i wish
my bike will glide
as i ride into the morning's sunshine.
An eagle ray,
as wisemen say,
live each day as if it were your last,
make everything count,
be the best that you can be,
and treat everyone the same way you want to be treated.
Have a great weekend!

Magical plate
a young 9 yr old girl presented with a reverse overbite on her right upper incisor. meaning that the tooth bites behind the lower front opposing tooth. if left untreated , it will remain as such.
it took me some effort to coax the parents into allowing me to treat her daughter with an upper removable plate to correct the malocclusion.
finally convinced, and fortunately the young girl was cooperative , the parents gave the go ahead.
the plate consists of a bite plane to open up the bite . it has the active component called the z springs ( see pic: at front of plate, 2 small wires look like Z) which i activate to push the upper incisors forward.
the girl had her plate adjusted every 2-3 weeeks. the end result was very pleasing n satisfactory.
the whole treatment only took 3 months so her parents were delighted too.
pic shows the end result . the upper right incisor is now in the normal occlusion with the lower incisor.
thank you for reading.

Running Clinic
On Saturday, i conducted the Borneo Marathon running clinic at likas sports centre.
It's opened to everyone n as you can see, even little children came to join in the fun.
there was a nice turnout .everyone was enthusiastic n very eager to learn.
as many of them are beginner runners, i tried to make them feel at ease n make it a light hearted session.
it was an hour session....
i taught them how to warm up properly, with adequate stretching exercises.
then i got them to run 6-7 laps around the circular lake, about 1km per lap.
i tried to interact with all of them so that they have a chance to ask me any questions they like.
to finish off, we did a proper cool down and finished the day with more chitchatting.
pic shows after the run...with friends Andrew,Chris n Urs.
all looking sweaty....great effort guys....thank you for turning up!
