Orthodontics : Duckling to a Swan

A teenager aged 13 yrs was brought in to my clinic for orthodontic consultation 9 months ago.
Ivy's mother mentioned her girl was feeling distressed about her highly protrusive upper front teeth.

the normal upper to lower overjet ( ie how much the upper teeth bite over the lower front teeth) is about 2-3mm.
As you can see from the picture, the overjet was in excess of 10mm. in fact, i measured at 14mm increased overjet.
also the lower front teeth were biting into the palate, which was causing Ivy alot of discomfort.

My treatment plan was to remove the upper first premolars. no extraction on the lower jaw.
upper n lower fixed appliances were fixed.
today, upon completion , i removed her appliances.
her overjet is at 4mm, slightly higher than normal but acceptable. the patient was very pleased with the outcome.

a happy smile and a satisfied patient.

Happy Birthday Melv!

it's my brother Melvin's birthday today!
i like your party hat Melv!

Melv n I share a passion for sports.
lately, he's taken up running ....we both like New Balance n Saucony trainers...and having run with him at a KL park recently, i must admit he's improved leaps n bounds.

I am trying to encourage his daughter Ying2 to take up kids'triathlon!
She is perfect for the sport :)
Ying2 loves riding her tricycle, begs her mum to take her to the parks' playgrounds n only gets out of the pool when we drag her to the changing room!

tonight they are celebrating at Fatty Crab. happy birthday Bro!

a part time maid

yes... that is my job for the next 2-3months......clearing up Sunday's mess.
puppies just pee n shit everywhere......and Sunday always catches me off guard! Hmmmm...did he do it on purpose?!! i think so too!
the number of times i had accidentally stepped on his wee...yucks!

but that is ok...when he grows up abit more, he would be house trained n behave properly.

his favourite passtime at the moment is chewing the wooden stools in the kitchen.
i have to hide my shoes... in the past ,i had quite a few of my expensive New Balance trainers chewed to pieces by other puppies.
Sunday was 2months old a few days ago. his birthday was August 5th.
this weekend i have to bring him to the vets for his 2nd round vaccination... after the half marathon race in KK town.
yep....i am only doing the half marathon ....cos the full is bloody painful!
i do hate the feeling of heavy leaded legs lingering for a few weeks after a full M...so the half is definitely for me!
I am not sure how i would fair... but i am looking forward to running for my charity the Emmanuel's Home.
10 children ( 5 girls, 5 boys ) from the Home will be running, another 5 will be volunteers.
i am looking forward to the race as more a fun run..just enjoying th atmosphere and encouraging friends along the way.
Zabil a triathlete friend from KL will be here to race too....Zabil has a tough decision to make...the half or the full?he has signed up for both!!!!! he said he would leave it to race day to decide!

on another note, a patient gave me some portugese egg tarts..well , not just some...how about a box full!
i love egg tarts!
i ate 6 egg tarts at one go....GUILT FREE :)
the rest i gave to my staff nurses.

Mobile Dog Groomer

this was parked in our neighbourhood in Perth.

it's a mobile dog groomer called " Hydro Dog."

you hardly see any stray dogs rooming the streets in australia, unlike in Malaysia.
it's funny the animals always make the front page news or headlines on TV in Australia.
i was amazed the range of food n grooming products available there.
it sure ain't a dog's life ! they get treated well over there.

daily life in Perth

most mornings i ran at the parks. some days i visited the leisure centre to swim.
this is at the entrance of Beatty park .

this picture was taken at 5 :45 am. swim squad practice.
water temperature 16 C. very cold!
the pool is usually packed with swim teams at this time, so i usually swam only when they finished.
the gym is situated right next to the pool so i enjoyed working out before a little dip in the pool.

Denise's collection of shoes in Perth. she bought baby Crocs ,baby Nike n baby adidas.
Kids these days!!!! they are so lucky!

i like the farmers market. fruits are abundant, breads are fresh , veges are colourful!

Yokine Reserve, north Perth

i accidently stumbled upon Yokine reserve when i was out for a morning run.
it was only 5 mins jog from where we stayed.
when i got back, i told Mum n Dad they must visit the park!
so around 8am we all went for a stroll at the park.
it was HUGE!

a precious moment with Denise.

King's park in Perth

I love the parks in australia. i calculated i ran at 7-8 different parks during my short trip in Perth.
the weather was cool, but it can feel very cold when the wind blows.
Mum n dad as loving as the day they first met!
Dad bought a new aussie hat the day before, so he was eager to show it off!

a lovely day for picnic.
we had lunch at chinatown at Northbridge then we visited King's park.
by the time we got there, they were so many people it took us a long time to get a parking space.
but it was well worth the wait.
we enjoyed sitting on the beautiful lawn, sipping our cuppacinos , and relaxing .

Denise liked the water sprouts, and kept wanting to chase the ducks n birds at the park.
i was put in charge of her... cos it's pretty hard to rein her in when she gets excited.
i got quite a workout for sure, running after her!

Lorraine n I queuing up for fresh lemonade , it was so icy cold n tasty i didn't want to share it with her!

our home in Perth

a small but cosy flat.
it's easy to navigate the streets in Perth.
the maps are very clear. we drove to many places for sight see n shopping.
mostly we like the pharmacies looking for fish oils n glucosamine n other supplements.
the medicine is much cheaper than those sold in malaysia.
we also like visiting the supermarkets, buying fresh bread loafs n cheeses, fresh milk n yoghurts and things we can't buy at home.
i love the fresh milk in australia. i am allergic to all types of milk packages in malaysia..but not in australia.
i drank so much fresh milk this trip.

Mum preparing dinner at the flat.

Australian wines are so nice! Dad's been collecting bottles of wines so we helped him out with the drinking!
that night , mum made rack of lamb, prawn avacado salads, baked potatoes, chicken soup n dessert was some fresh greek yoghurt with strawberries we bought at Wannerroo market.
